“You first,” she said. I shook my head. “No. You first.” Her face became serious. She fiddled with her glass as if trying to figure the best way to say what she wanted to say. Finally, she looked over at me. “Last night, after dinner when we were in the restroom, I asked you about Ken.” “Yeah.” “What’s going on between you two? I mean, are you a couple, talking? Friends? What?” I swallowed another sip of the wine. “Why? Are you into him?” “Well, not exactly.” “Then? Why does it matter?” She fidgeted and took another healthy sip of her wine for fortification. “I guess I just wanted to know what your status is with him before I made any moves.” I raised an eyebrow, watching her over the rim of my glass. “Moves?” “Yeah.” I shrugged.
