Chase POV I clutched at her hand, terrified. She was so pale. Her lips looked like they were turning blue. I cursed myself for being so stupid. Why hadn't I taken more cautious measures? Why hadn't I seen the car until it was too late? I had been distracted, lost in my thoughts, and by the time I had heard the gunshots, Sage had already been lost in the thick of them. Even as I had plunged heedlessly towards her and knocked her to the ground, I had known that we were vulnerable, that there was every possibility that either one of us or both would die, seeking to put my body on top of hers in a desperate attempt to make sure that she survived. Even if I died, I wanted my wife to live. I wanted the woman I loved, to be the one to live. We were lucky that both of us had, but Sage was injured
