Sage POV My back was to the mirror, my hair beginning to feel lighter as the stylist frowned, concentration, the sound of the scissors snipping away, filling my ears as I stayed motionless, fearful she might cut something more if I moved at the wrong moment. I could feel how smooth my hair was, how deeper in color it looked already, even as the stylist cut and then began to blow dry and straighten it while I sat in the chair patiently waiting. Another woman, the makeup artist, wandered over, beginning to nod to herself and drag out various hues and colors, muttering beneath her breath and then beginning to work on my face as the hairdresser moved backward and watched approvingly.
