Aria's POV I fixated on the road ahead as I thought of every single moment I’d shared with Brooke. More importantly how I should have let her come with us. I could have taught her how to defend herself enough to withstand an attack until Steele or I could help. But with every thought came the heavy weight of tears that Steele endured by only gripping my hand tightly as we sped through the backroads of the country and to a city I prayed I’d never have to step foot in again. But now, I’d raze it to ashes if it meant keeping her safe. “Aria…” Steele caught hold of my wrist as the engine cut at the rim of The Legion’s land. The scent of smoke even lingered in the air as I wished I could blame that on the tears in my eyes. But every sweetened memory here was made putrid to know it was a lie.
