"We're on last call, miss…" The bartender spoke to Cartier as she crossed the threshold of the bar, her focus lingering upon the disheveled man set upon the very far left of the counter itself. His body slumped away from her, his attention based on the remaining liquor within his glass, unaware that his beloved stood a few feet  away from him. Wishing to surprise him with her presence, Cartier didn’t speak a single word and had instead placed herself just beside him while the bartender then turned to face her. Asking what it was she wanted to drink, she waved her hand to signal ‘nothing’, before presenting a small collection of cash wrapped in a hair tie.
