Nicolas stirred. He knew this weekend was going to be stressful but even he had a hard time accepting how his parents were acting. His mother and father were determined to avoid acknowledging Aubrey and Jamie at all costs even during his father’s birthday toast.
His father always made a big show of it using it as an opportunity to relate all his siblings’ achievements throughout the year. He had announced all his brothers’ engagements as well as acknowledged the births of his grandchildren. However, last night he hadn’t said one word about Aubrey or Jamie. Neither of them heard his father’s other toasts so didn’t realize the omission but Nicolas knew and he felt nothing but spite toward the man who dared call himself a father.
