Meghan’s P.O.V. The flickering light of the television cast long, uneven shadows across Adam and Jenna’s cozy living room, but the warmth that usually filled their home was noticeably absent. Instead, a tense silence clung to the air, punctuated only by the low murmur of news anchors describing the raging fire in the woods. The words “spread rapidly” and “dangerous conditions” felt like punches to my chest as I sat curled up on the couch, clutching a mug of tea Jenna had handed me but hadn’t touched.
