Blade’s P.O.V. The heat was oppressive, radiating off the flames like a living, breathing entity. I adjusted my helmet, sweat dripping down my temple as I surveyed the chaotic scene in front of me. The forest fire roared like an angry beast, its tendrils of flame clawing at the night sky. Ash rained down around me, turning the ground beneath our boots into a treacherous, shifting carpet of soot and embers. “Blade, watch out!” Marcus’s voice cut through the din, sharp and urgent. I pivoted, just in time to see a flaming branch crashing down. I shoved Marcus aside as well, the heat singeing my skin even through the heavy gear.
