I lock the bedroom door as soon as I enter. It's been a long day and I really just want to sleep, preferably, in peace. Yet I anxiously lie on the bed staring up at the ceiling, just waiting, waiting for the enviable until my eyelids slowly begin to flutter close. A thump startles me awake and I make out the sound of footsteps ascending the stairs. Sh*t, the moment of truth. My heart beats frantically in my chest, my palms profusely sweating. My mind running through a thousand different ways this will end yet I hope for the best. I stay perfectly still as if he'll somehow be able to detect even my slightest movement. Feet come to a halt, then the doorknob shakes. I hold my breath. "Lil' lamb, why is the door locked?" I don't answer even after he knocks and calls my name again. Th
