Charlie embraced me, her arms gently wrapping around me as we left the office. I started at the sidewalk, my feet moving, the weed peeking out from the cracks- avoiding anything or anyone's gaze. I wrapped my own arms around me, feeling broken inside.
No matter how much I denied it when I was younger- or maybe even yesterday -I wanted pups of my own eventually. I wanted a family of my own like when I was younger except I would be the strong hearted mom and Nathan would be the caring dad that danced with our daughter at her wedding and taught our son how to lead with the intentions to do better for the pack. I wanted to kiss their heads every night and sing them to sleep before having to wake them up in the morning for training.
I wanted to watch them grow. But not with just anybody
