Crashing and Burning

MORNING! SUNSHINE

Ally’s alarm started blaring on her phone and it startled her. Disoriented, she cracked her eyes open and a splitting headache hit her with full force, making her wince. Gus had her pinned down to the bed with one arm. She grabbed it and carefully removed it from her. He just turned around and continued sleeping even with the alarm ringing thunderously.

She made her way to her cellphone and turned the bloody thing off. The room was still engulfed in shadows as it was so early in the morning. She saw Gus’s shirt lying on the floor, and she threw it on as she was still naked, then quietly moved through the darkness, fidgeting and breathing curses, until she found the door knob and exited the bedroom.

She got to the bathroom with her bladder painfully threatening to burst, and finally, she sat and peed the longest pee ever, sighing in relief. When she was done, she realized she was so hungover there was no way in the f*****g world that she could make it to work and survive. So, she texted her boss and called-in sick. She’d never done that before though, so he was super sympathetic, all things considered.

Feeling extremely tired, she made her way back to the bedroom and crawled into bed as well as she could before passing out again. -Just for a few minutes - She told herself.

When she opened her eyes again, the sun was bathing her face and it was clearly almost noon. She sat up panicked and found the bed cold and the room empty.

She stood up shakily, starting to gather her things, when suddenly the door cracked open, and she turned around to find Gus holding two plates.

-Morning, sunshine!- He paused, eyeing her - Well, you’re not leaving without trying my famous scrambled eggs- He announced, passing her one of the plates.

She grabbed it with her free hand, while still holding her clothes and underwear in the other.

-You should keep my shirt on for now, you’ll be comfier– he said, placing down the other plate on the table - Here, give me those, I’ll throw them in the washer, and they’ll be dry in no time. Hold on, I’ll bring us some tea.

He gently pried her fingers open to take the clothes from her and made his way out again, leaving Ally standing with the plate in her hand. She turned to look at it, it smelled delicious, and her mouth watered at the sight of food. Even if the hangover was starting to fade, she was now starving.

Sighing, she plopped down on the bed, grabbing the fork over the plate and silently started eating. She moaned inadvertently in satisfaction. Those were definitely the most perfect and fluffiest eggs she’d ever tried. Her stomach growled in agreement, and she took a few more eager bites.

-Glad you liked breakfast - Gus said, standing at the door with two cups in his hands.

-Thanks- was all she could utter between mouthfuls.

He made his way to her and handed her a steaming cup. She took a careful sip, and she felt her chest warming with the hot liquid.

He turned on the TV and sat beside her holding his plate and cup. They ate in silence watching Ren & Stimpy reruns. When both were done with their food, he swiftly took the empty plates and cups, walking outside the room.

“Wow, this is weird”- Ally thought. Just a second later, her cellphone chimed. It was Jo texting

-Hey, are you alive? Just worried about you… You did not come home last night

-Yeah, I just went out with some of my coworkers and crashed at their place - She lied - They live nearer from work, so it made sense to just stay there for the night - Another lie, and a damn elaborated one. She sighed.

-What about your clothes? Are you still wearing the same as yesterday? – Jo inquired.

“s**t” Ally cursed -Well, yeah, but they washed them and dried them for me, so it’s not like they’re dirty or anything - she texted back. At least that part was true, she smirked.

-Okay… Awkward, but anyway, it’s your life hun. So, I’ll see you when I see you! I’m leaving this afternoon for Bali, remember? So I won’t be home when you come back from work.

-Oh yeah, true! Well, you have a nice trip and see you in a couple of weeks. Have fun! Love ya!

Ally stared at her cellphone screen for a moment before the noise of the door opening caught her attention. Gus came into the room again and, for the first time that day, she took a moment to really look at him. He was wearing jeans and a black tank shirt, barefooted, his dark curls wrapped up in a ponytail and a radiant smile hanging from his lips. She froze, just staring at him like a deer caught in headlights.

He was tall, very tall! Compared to her humble five feet, he was almost a giant and his broad figure made him even more outstanding. Her eyes trailed his body for a second, and she found herself blushing when the memories of the past night came suddenly flooding her mind. She quickly turned her eyes to her phone.

-So you decided to skip work for me? – He stated with a loud laugh, making his way over to her - Gee, thanks! – He kissed her cheek as he sat beside her.

-Ha, ha! You wish - she replied, glaring at him- I was just too hungover. Besides, now that I think about it, you said you were an engineer. Don’t you have a job to be at too?

He c****d his head, an amused look sparkling in his eyes.

-Well, not right now. You see… I actually worked my ass off in a call center all through college and I managed to save up some money, so I decided to take a sabbatical before joining the ranks of the oppressed and getting lost in the system. And that’s what I’m doing right now.

-Wow! Lucky you. I’ve been long gone oppressed since, like forever-She said enviously.

-Hey, at least you’ve got yourself a long weekend! – He cheered smiling - So, what would you like to do? Wanna go to the movies or something?

She frowned, panic coursing through her skin. “s**t, she’d been so horny the night before she’d forgotten to tell him the rules!”

-I’m gonna stop you right there, handsome - She said, forcing herself to look him in the eye - You see, right now I don’t do dates and I don’t do relationships. I’m just looking for some s*x, so, please don’t expect anything else from me… and don’t fall in love.

He stood quiet, his eyes scanning her calmly for a moment. Then his smile returned as bright as before.

- Good! That doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun, right? – His grin extending mischievously- Now, let’s get you some s*x.
