Seeing the look on Amber's face once she saw the cheque in her hands, made my heart flip inside of my chest and my wolf howl towards the moon. This was what I had always wanted for her, for both of us. I wanted us to have a life together, but a happy one as well. The happiness, meaning that we wouldn’t have to worry about every bill coming to our house. Hell, I had grown up in a household where my dad worked his ass off for his entire life and we still had to scramble to get by at the end of every month. I never went to bed on an empty stomach, but I knew what it was like to have parents who worked their asses off for scraps. I didn't want that for my family.
