 That weekend, she and Elle were getting ready to go into town for their costume shopping.   “Are you sure you don’t want me or Elle’s mother to come along?” Lizzie’s mother asked, a worried look on her face as Lizzie checked to make sure she had everything she’d need in her purse.  “Let’s see, I’ve got my wallet, my lip gloss, my sunglasses, and my keys,” Lizzie said as she rooted through the items in her purse.  Then, looking up at her mother, she shook her head and said, “No, Mom. We’re fine going by ourselves. It’s the middle of the day. What could happen?”  Her mother raised one eyebrow.  Lizzie sighed and nodded.   “Okay, we both know what could happen, but we’ll be in town surrounded by people,” Lizzie said. “I don’t think we’re in any danger if we go by ourselves.”  Her moth
