*Jessa's pov* I was dancing away with the Alpha of the Black Moon pack, Alec. I didn't even realize that it was nearing midnight. I was lost in our movements and the beat of the music. Suddenly I heard a slight buzzing noise in my ear, and I started to feel dizzy. Alec had gone completely still. I could feel his heart beating rapidly. He was staring down at me not saying a word. When I matched his gaze I saw he was staring down at my hands which were glowing white. I heard a clock chime, it was running in the new hour-midnight. "I must be ascending," I thought to myself. As the clock finished chiming, Alec's grip on my hips tightened. I had almost forgotten he had been holding me close to his body while we danced. I tried to wiggle myself free of his grasp to no avail. He was holding me as tightly as he could. The warm glow from my hands had started to disappear and the buzzing in my ears had all but stopped. Alec was still frozen in place staring at me. "Uh, Alec?" I managed to say out loud. He just shook his head like he was having an internal conversation. By this point the music had stopped, all eyes were focused on us and it was making me very uncomfortable. I hated being the center of attention. I finally spotted Ashley walking over to us, holding a beautiful little cupcake, with a single-lit candle. Alec was still stiff as a bored, his hands still grasped tightly around me. "Happy Birthday Jessa" Ashley announced, this seemed to snap Alec out of his trance. His body began to loosen up and he can't stand too rigidly. He didn't let go of my hips though. "How does it feel to be 18 now Jes?" Mason asked, sauntering over. A low growl ripped out of Alec's chest stopping Mason in his place. "Uh, Al? Wanna let go of Jessa?" Ashley asked her big brother. Alec just began to furiously shake his head. I felt his hands grip my hips tighter. "Why not?" Ashley asked impatiently she was seemingly getting more annoyed with her brother as the seconds ticked onward. He just shook his head no. My eyes were pleading with Ashley to help me. "Alec let her go" Ashley demanded, again he just shook his head no. A small circle had formed around us by this point, and I became extremely uncomfortable. Ashley tried to reach out and pull me away from her older brother, but he let out a fierce growl. I stiffened when I heard him. Why was Alec being so strange when moments ago he was sweet and charming I thought to myself. Another growl came from where Alec was standing, this one sounded different though more coherent. I could have sworn I heard actual words being said. "What's your issue, Al?" Ashley asked, getting increasingly annoyed with her older brother's behaviour. That's when we all heard the muffled word he had been muttering. He let out one last growl, this time he said only one word. A word that would change my life as I knew it. "mate" *Alec's pov* "Mate," I said, pulling Jessa closer to me. I saw my little sister take a step forward and I wanted to snarl at her. She was trying to take Jessa away from me. In all reality, she was probably just trying to see if Jessa was alright, but my brain isn't functioning properly. "Alec!" I heard Ashley yell, which momentarily snapped me out of my haze. I looked down at my beautiful mate, it was like I was seeing her for the first time even though I spent the last bit grinding away with her on a packed dance floor. She had stunning blonde hair that fell down her back in ringlets, soft gray orb-like eyes that currently looked very confused but still stunningly beautiful. Compared to me, Jessa was very short. She looked like she stood around 5 for 2 or 3 inches tall, I towered over her at 6'4. Her peach skin was flawless, a little paler than my sun-kissed bronze skin. "Ashley?" I heard Jessa whisper. This made me loosen my grip on her. Still holding her close, but not as tight. "It's okay Jessa, Al won't hurt you." Ashley softly said to her. I looked at my sister in horror, hurt her, hurt her. I would never harm a single beautiful blonde hair on her head. I heard my wolf Ajax mumble in my head. I nodded, agreeing with Ajax, I would love and protect her until my last breath. Jessa looked up at me with her big gray eyes, and for that moment everything stopped. Nobody was around us, it was just her and I. My wolf howled in delight, the scent of watermelon flooded my scenes. "You smell amazing" I blurted out before I even realized that I said it. Jessa began to giggle, her laugh was infectious. "Ash, can you start clearing people out? It's starting to get late." I asked my sister, it was her party after all. Ashley rolled her eyes but eventually started to clear out the guests from the packhouse. By the end of the night, the only people left were Ashley's close group of friends, they were always around so I didn't mind much. "Stay the night?" I whispered into Jessa's ear. "What's going on Al," Nick said, sauntering over to the group. He instantly spotted Jessa wrapped up in my arms and gave me a quizzical look. Crap, I forgot to tell Nick and Ken I broke up with Jackie. I thought to myself. "This is Jessa" I proudly announced to my gamma. "Hello Jessa I'm Nicholas" he introduced himself politely to my mate. Dude, what happened to Jackie? Nick said over the mind link. I broke up with her earlier today. I couldn't deal with her crazy ass anymore, I replied. Nick smiled, he was likely glad I was done with her, he had made it quite clear his distaste for her being around. So who's Jessa? he asked "my mate." I replied by cutting the mindlink off. When my eyes cleared, everyone was looking at us with a confused stare. "What were you just doing?" She asked innocently. "Well, my little mate" I started "We were having a conversation over the mind link, a special way for wolves to talk to each other" I went on to explain. Everyone was lounging on the furniture, except Ken. "Hey Nick, where'd Ken disappear too?" I asked. Nick gave me the all-knowing mischievous smile "upstairs" he replied pointing in the general direction of the staircase. I couldn't wait for Jessa to meet the rest of the family Kenneth and of course my parents. They we're going to love her, I just knew it. ********************************************* *Jessa's pov* I was curled up on Alec's lap, after he stated I was his mate he wouldn't let me leave his side. "He's been looking for his mate for five years" Ashley whispered, nudging my foot to grant attention. Alec and the man who introduced himself as Nicholas were deep in conversation and didn't hear what Ashley had said. "I'm a virgin" I whispered back at her, a horrified expression crossed my face and I instantly started to internally panic. "Don't worry Jes" Ashley whispered, patting my foot gently. "I need to call my brother and let him know i'm not coming home tonight" I announced, attempting to wriggle out of Alec's strong arms. "you're staying?" Alec said, and you could hear the happiness in his voice. I nodded my head and he released his hold on me. "uhhh," I said, "can I borrow your phone, Alec? I left mine in Ashley's room when we got dressed." I sheepishly asked. He let out a hardy laugh, and reached into his pocket, unlocked and handed me his phone. I quickly dialled Jacob's number. It was only slightly after 1230 he would still be up. He answered after the second ring. "Hello?" "Hey Jake," I said cheerily "Jessa, what's up are you okay? who's number are you calling from?" he was going into overprotective brother mode and I needed him to be chill. "Lots up, I'm perfectly fine and Alpha Alec's, I left mine in Ashley's bedroom," I said, answering his questions. "Okay, you'll need to explain all that when you get home" he started "I'm going to stay at Ashley's tonight okay?" "You don't need to ask my permission Jes. You're an adult now, just be safe and call me if anything and I mean anything happens." He said before he added "happy birthday Jessa" and disconnected the call. I handed Alec back his phone. "He's okay," I said smiling, "Just a little overprotective." I crawled back onto Alec's lap and slipped back into conversation with Ashley while he and Nicholas bantered with each other. Clint, Mason and Nate had wandered over to the pool table which I didn't notice as we're in a small joining room. Clover walked over to us and joined in on our conversation. The night was peaceful, but I was getting tired. I rested my head on Alec's shoulder. I must have dozed off for a few minutes in Alec's embrace because I was thrust into being very alert when a high pitch scream rang through the packhouse. Standing in the doorway was a woman I had never seen before. Alec quickly picked me up and set me beside him on the couch, his stance was more protective than loving. "WHO THE F*CK IS THIS B*TCH!!!" the women screamed at us. She had badly dyed blonde hair, you could see the roots poking through. She was slightly taller than me, around Ashley's height and wore a skin-tight black mini skirt with a matching tube top and what could only be described as hooker heels, the thigh high stilettos that came over the knee. She crossed the room in a fury pointing fingers at Alec and I. "What are you doing here Jackie?" Alec spoke in a gruff voice. "Me?!" she protested "What's the b*tch doing sitting on your lap?" she turned the question on Alec. "She is my destined mate." he barked, his eyes started to change from blue to black, I watched as the woman named Jackie shrank back slightly before composing herself. "What was I to you then hmm, is this why you broke up with me earlier?" She accused, "because you met someone younger who's claiming to be your mate."Jackie managed to get the last word out before Alec's eyes went completely black and he shot up from his seat. He was quick as lightning, he was beside me one second and then standing uncomfortably close in front of Jackie the next. His face was directly in front of hers but his voice was kind, and it carried. "You will not disrespect Jessa, she is the future Luna of this pack. I broke up with you because I was done with you, you were a mistake" he snarled at her. The tears swelled threatening to fall from her eyes. She turned and started to walk away, but before she left she looked over her shoulder and cried "this isn't over!", then continued to walk away, slamming the front door behind her. The room had gone completely silent, the vibration of the door resettling in its frame, reversing around the room. Alec took a few deep breaths before returning to the vacant spot on the couch beside me. He picked me back up and placed me on his lap with ease. My posture was rigid, anxiety began to creep into my bones, and the jovial, relaxed vibe in the room had completely disappeared. Ashley and Clover announced they were going to go upstairs, the rest of the guys followed suit. Leaving Alec and I alone for the first time since he first said I was his mate. The tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife. He brushed a stray hair from my face, resting his forehead against mine. "I'm sorry Jessa," he finally said, breaking the silence. He held me in his arms and I began to relax. Once I had completely calmed down Alec explained who Jackie was. He promised I had nothing to worry about. And I wanted to believe him, but Jackie's words lingered in my thoughts. "Do you want to go to my room?" Alec asked. I thought it over for a few seconds before nodding. He lifted me up as he stood, like I weighed nothing, and proceeded to carry me bridal style up the stairs to a room on the fourth floor. When we reached his room, he opened the door with one hand and held me close in the other. He refused to set me down until we reached the bed, gently placing me on the soft mattress. "Do you need a minute?" he asked and I realized I was still in my dress from the party. I blushed, I didn't have clothes to change into, looks like I'm sleeping in my underwear tonight. I thought to myself. I shook my head and started to wiggle myself out of the blue dress. I was wearing a blue lace bra and matching thong set. Alec took one look at me and darted into his closet. I was beginning to feel insecure when he reappeared with a black t-shirt. "Please put this on," he said, handing it to me. I took the shirt from him, pulling it over my head and letting it drop around my tiny frame. "Thank you, Jessa," he said furrowing his brow. "I don't get it? Do you not like how I look?" I asked him, still caught up on the issue with Jackie. " Jessa looked at me," he said and I looked up from under my lashes. "I would be blind to not adore your body, your curves and how sexy you are. But, I don't want this to be our first time together, so sleeping beside you dressed like that would make me go crazy " Alec said. I relaxed and crawled under the covers. Alec got in next to me, and pulled me close, our bodies moulded together as if the perfect puzzle piece, and I let sleep take over.
