CHAPTER IV: CURTAINS OF CHAOS - SIDE A: A WINTER'S TALE (6)
The Colonel redirected all the efforts of the Battalion to the great Major Neufratos; guiding the groups Um, Sol and Quetra to the attack it. Trying to bring down the monster of never-before-seen proportions.
“We are in the final stage!” exclaimed Kramian. “We have lost many warriors, and they will not have given up their lives in vain! Let's make it worth it! There is no turning back! Let's show them why we are the guardians of this world! Let's show them why we swear to protect the lands that have blessed us so much! We will triumph and we will rejoice with love in our home and with our families! Let’s fight with the fury of the Kingdom of the Great Wėzhreem! Army of Splendor, once again, let's go for them, immediately!”
A wave of enraged dragons headed for the attack. Kramian, Coelum and Fliper directed the onslaught towards the Greater Neufratos. It began to receive hundreds of flaming and portentous roars, but the monster caught Fliper with one of its colossal arms and threw him towards the depths of the nearby forest.
Coelum went to his brother, as fast as he ossibly could, who was going in the direction to rescue him for he had been trapped by a small camouflage Neufaros inside the forest. He arrived at the place, and Fliper was seriously injured. He had hit himself with a big stone. Weakened, he tried to take refuge under a tree. He was cornered by the little monsters, which seemed to multiply among the bushes. Coelum then, tried to defend his brother, but there were too many of them. They knocked him down, and tore off one of his wings. Defeated, they began to trample on him with their great leg roots, crushing his helmet.
Fliper regained consciousness, and when he saw his brother about to be shattered, he got up and defended him. With immeasurable fury, he annihilates the Neufaros that Coelum had on top of him, and frightened everyone else of them.
He grabbed his brother and rose over the heights of the forest to leave the place. He tried to retreat to a quiet area on the outskirts of the Region, as both were seriously injured. Along the way, a Neufratos threw a litter of poisonous water that fell into the dragon's eyes, causing an abrupt descent with his brother. Both of them fell on the shore of the river, in an area full of Neufaros.
Fliper tried to defend himself against the immediate attacks of the monsters while trying to snatch Coelum on the only rock found in the place. Sitting and seriously injured, he tried to support his brother with spherical roars of fire. All of this happened at the banks of an enraged river; in the presence of fearful currents. Fliper began to weaken. His armor no longer served him and his knees loosened. He battled with six Neufaros at the same time.
Coelum, taking his last breaths, emitted faint roars of fire. He was behind his brother. One of the monsters bit Fliper’s tail, plucked the tip of it and buried it towards his heart. The warrior fell on the ground, while Coleum shouted his name. The injured prince was thrown beside his brother.
Enraged, Coelum overloaded his energy and displayed a very powerful technique taught by the Golden King himself, the spell of the Perfect Quadrant. An attack that emanated a roar of golden fire that broke into two breathtaking flames and two rays of red fire came out of the scaly skin holes of his hands. He managed to kill all the Neufaros with the impressive magic wave, but the spell got out of control and burned almost the entire area.
With tears in his eyes, he grabbed his brother and dragged him towards him, giving him one last hug.
The Army of Splendor, despite its titanic efforts, failed to bring down the Central Neufratos, and conditions began to complicate. The storm fell again. The rushing sky drowned the region. The triumph was lost sight of. The Colonel looked around impatiently, for his mind did not allow him to concentrate. His children did not return, and he did not see them anywhere. He retired from his position and got up on the heights of the region to look for them with a group of dragons.
Flying outside, they realized that on the riverbank, there was a covered area in flames; where he found Coelum with his brother, in his arms.
“What happened? Why are you alone here?!” exclaimed Kramian. “I need a rescue team immediately!”
"Father," the dragon replies in tears. “My brother has sacrificed his life for me.”
“It´s okay son, just hold on. Where the hell is the Rescue Group leader?!”
Coelum released Fliper, and he fell into his father's arms. Although he kept calling for the rescue team in despair, there was nothing left that could be done, other than the farewell. Coelum looked his father in the eyes, and with the last remaining strength he had, tried to be honest with him.
“Did I do well father?” he questioned. “I hope I have done well. You are the most important thing to me, and I’ve always wanted to make you proud, that I am your son.”
"I am and I will always be proud of you, my son" exclaimed the Colonel in tears. “I'm sorry I didn't value you as I should have. I'm sorry I didn't love you as I had to. You are a warrior with a huge heart.”
"I love you father" Coelum replied, "take care of my son. I dreamed of him before having him father. He is a special Raēn, and I know he will be a great warrior.”
“I will guide him to glory, and he will be exalted in your name” responded the Colonel.
Kramian, rose among the flames of the ground, with aridity of revenge. His dilated pupils, turned reddish and dark. Melancholic, he raised his energy to an impressive strength, left the group of dragons with his deceased children and headed impetuously back to the battlefield.
When he reached the war zone, he headed straight for the Central Neufratos, sweeping his path with all the monsters that crossed his path. A group of dragons were distracting the greater monstrosity. The Colonel gave them the signal to continue doing so. He had a plan.
Kramian then descended to ground level, as the fastest dragon in the entire army. He decided to enter the center of the monster to destroy the main foundations of it. He flew between the giant roots that formed the true maze and reached the nucleus energy of the creature. It was protected by two large Neufratos, which he quickly eliminated with his roars.
He plunged into poisonous waters to locate the main foundations and found them. He then, placed a reddish stone winged between them. He came out of the swampy waters, positioned himself, charged all of his energy, and from his mouth came the most powerful roar he had made in his life.
He emitted a golden fire that pierced the water and entered the foundations. Suddenly, two Supreme Dragons appeared, joined him, and stood behind him. Glowing purple and greenish fire roars emanated additionally. The combination of these three roars caused an explosion in the stone, which refracted the incandescent magical flames in the core of the creature, adhering to the entire structure of it.
It was then, when all parts of the Nénufar began to explode, until the damaging fires reached the head of the monster, where the seed was. The head was quickly destroyed. Thus, they defeated the main monster, and when this colossal fall happened, the Nénufar beings began to disintegrate one by one. Falling abruptly on the ground; disintegrating, for it was the fall of the Marsh Monsters. Dragons savored victory. It meant the triumph for Splendor once again. They celebrated on the heights, with the exception of Kramian, who still mourned the loss of his two children.
He went to the shores of the region, where they were. He grabbed both of the bodies, gave them the Dragonary Blessing, and placed them in the streams of the Lileín River, allowing their souls to rest in the nectar of the region, which Mother Nature welcomed with great care. Thanks to this, their energies would prevail in this world for all eternity.
The Colonel indicated the withdrawal to the Hanging Gardens; seeing in the distance, a region covered in flames; moons lost in the sky. The Dragons of the Army of Splendor were received as heroes. And all the dragons of the kingdom were in the central squares. The Golden King was also there, and Kramian hugged him, breaking into tears.
