Zane's POV
“ Mother. How is the baby?” I asked her as soon as she made her way back to the house.
Phoebe was in the garden helping her aunt pick out vegetables as she insisted on making dinner on the first night back, even though we have a chef.
“ Talia and the baby are fine for now…” she said and sat down. She looked worried, which meant that there was something she wasn't telling me.
“ What's wrong? Why do you have that look on your face?” I asked her.
“ Because I am worried, Zane. Worried that everything you have worked so hard for could be taken away from you. Today made me realize how vulnerable we really are,” she said.
I know my mother, I know that all of this must come from somewhere. I wondered if she knew more than she was willing to let on.
