Chapter 3

3649 Words
Over the next few days getting back in the old routine at the precinct was difficult but not as bad as she thought it would be; except the extra eyes on her now. She figured her status would of gotten around by now but she had the slight hope that it would have been a while before it hit the precinct. She wasn’t half way into her shift when she and Connor were sent out to a homicide on the outskirts of the city in a abandon scrap metal building. It use to be McCarty’s Metal shop, the old man had a pretty profitable company for quite a few years until he left it too his idiot son Lucas who ran the company into the ground in under 6 months. The old man actually passed away on the day of closing, oddly poetic in someways but that’s life. They try to keep people out but even with the fence up around the place it doesn’t do shit really.             She meets Connor down by her car as he grabbed somethings out of his car parked near hers. She noticed him slid the silver dagger in this back pocket underneath his coat.             “What,” he spoken when he noticed her eyes on him when he fixed his coat as he looked at her by the drivers side door.             “Nothing,” she says with a slight smile as she opened her door as she spoke once more before she took a seat.             “Slightly impressed…that’s all,” she spoke as she took a seat and closed the door.             “What can I say over two years….I learned,” he says as he got in the passenger side. “I had too.”            Hearing those words come from him, she knew he wasn’t trying to hurt her but the words made the guilt she still had lingering inside her build more. She wanted to be here, that’s why she fought so hard to begin with but even as hard as she fought it still took time.             “McCarty’s Metals….never heard of it,” he spoke up as she drove.            “You wouldn’t really unless you’ve been here for quite a few years,” she says, “It was originally owned by Edward McCarty….this place was back when my dad was young. It was pretty well known, the guy pretty much had his hands in everything….cans, frameworks for about anything…like cars, buildings….pretty much everything you can think of. The old man was surprisingly smart….            “Was he…you know….            “What…like me…like us you mean,” she says.            “Yeah, I guess,” he replied.            “No the old man was human but he was smart,” she says, “He got ill about six years back and transferred his company to his loser son Lucas. That guy was in and out of jail like it was nothing but the old man still give him the company. The son had a business that was bringing in millions, bankrupt in under six months. Anticlimactic part is that old man built that business by himself, he actually passed away the day the doors closed.”            “Your shitting me,” he spoke as he glanced at her.            “Nope…the guy actually died the same day the doors closed,” she says, “Honestly if it wasn’t for natural causes we would of brought the son in but we couldn’t touch him. Lucas was such a piece of shit human being he actually left the burial and the whole funeral proceedings to the old man’s nurse. So he could skip out of town with no issues on his part.”            “What a piece of work.”            “Understatement of the year,” she says, “I wish we could of arrested the asshole but he’s one of those proven points that if you have money you get away with anything.”            “Things will never change as much as we would like them too….its just not what happens in this world,” he spoke simply as he looked out the window.             The rest of the ride was surprisingly quiet the rest of the way when they did finally arrive at the factory, she parked out front of the rickety old gates. She turned off the ignition and got out of the car along with him.             “Did we get the wrong part of the area,” he asked.            “No, I can smell the old blood…corner’s already taken the body,” she says as she points over too the different sets of tracks.             She walks over to the previous outlined area with a bit of police tape still around it. Something just wasn’t sitting well with this whole situation; she knelt down as she slid her fingertips over the dirt.            “Hey, wanna explain something to me,” he spoke.            “Huh,” she spoke as she looked to him over her shoulder as she noticed him holding up a rather new hardcore lock on a new chain that was holding the gates shut.             “That is definitely a…huh,” she spoke as she stood up as walked over to him as she lightly touched the lock.            “Want to explain why there is from what I can tell a brand new lock on a piece of shit gate,” he says, “For a building that hasn’t been used in what….years as you said.”            “I did say that,” she spoke as she looked around slightly as she grasped the lock with a slight growl as she ripped it off the chains and they fell like a thud on the ground only making a slight clink once when they hit.            “Pays to have a badass as a partner,” he spoke as he pushed the gates open and they both unbuckled the top part of their holsters as they walked further to the building.            When they got closer though she stopped midway as she looked as the large broken down building. Conner as soon as he heard her stop, he looked back as he saw her look like a freaking deer stuck in the headlights as she stared at the building.             “Yo, Eva….Eva…..HEY EVA            When he yelled, she shook her head out of her thoughts as she looked to him. He walked over towards her as he laid his hand slightly on her cheek as he says, “Eva….baby….you with me.”                    She shook her head as she looked to him and before she said a word; she ran off towards the building as soon as she hit the door it flew off the henges as it crashed into the wall inside. She ran as she started to look around, the smell she was picking up it was almost nauseating but she ran towards it. She heard Connor but his voice wasn’t connecting as she found two large metal shipping containers in the facility. She couldn’t control herself as she found herself ripping off both the locks on the containers and when she through the doors open. She couldn’t believe the scene in front of her eyes.            “Oh my god,” she heard spoke behind her as she couldn’t pick up the scent of anyone of them alive.            She noticed the faint heartbeat in the other container as she ran in as she felt the rise of bile in her throat as she found a small boy barely breathing. She brought him outside of the container as Conner took off his coat as he wrapped the young boy in it.             “Eva….what the hell is going on,” he spoke as she dropped to the ground as she held the kid.            He started to choke and then gasp for breath as he hacked up silver and some purple fluid.            “Come on kid….fight….fight…..please fight,” she spoke as she wiped his mouth.            “Kid, kid….no..no..nonono,” he spoke as he tried to help clear his airway but it was only a matter of moments for he took his last breath.             “Shit…fuck…what the hell,” he spoke as he fell back on his ass on the grounds as he looks to her.             She couldn’t help but stare at the boy in her arms, she wiped the mixture from his lips and she slid her fingertips over his eyelids to close his eyes.             “Lil one you deserved better than this,” she says, “You may not have found peace in this life but the one you walk into next will. Will be of peace and love…among our kind.”            “Call Angelo….tell him..*takes a breath*…he knows a cleaner and give him the address,” she spoke as she took a breath as she could barely look up from the kid.            “Eva,” he spoke as he looked to her.            “Please….just call him….now,” she spoke as he got up as he looked to her; not wanting to leave..he walked a few feet from her as he slipped out his cell and made the call.            She wrapped the kid in conners coat as she covered him as she leaned back against the doorframe as the scent of death from the half-lings was everywhere.             “If any children of Ethan are near…..tell him I need to have a discussion with him tonight….it’s extremely important.”            “Angelo said he will be here with the services in 30,” he spoke as he walked over towards her as he knelt down next to her.             When he went to touch her, she leaned away from his touch as she lays the kid down as she stepped away from the kid as she turned and looked inside the container. She counted at least twelve children in one container and she counted eight in the other.            “Jesus….their all kids,” he spoke as he looked into the larger container.             “Half-lings….their half breed kids…babies,” she says, “They’ve all been dosed…silver and poison.”            She picked up several different scents as she walked around the container then the area. A growl passed her lips as she as she ran out of the building as she got into her car and drove off. She didn’t even pay attention to Connor yelling at her in the background.            “FUCK!!!!” He yelled as he watched her haul ass out.             30 minutes later…..          He heard a few vehicles pull out front as he walked out of the large facility as he saw Angelo come into view with a few others.            “Connor….where’s Eva,” he spoke.            “Hell all if I know….probably gonna do something real fucking stupid,” he says as he couldn’t help but pace back and fourth.             “What the hell happened,” Angelo asked.            “The containers their filled with half-ling kids….their all dead,” Connor says, “Eva found one alive or so we though….we tried to save the one but he died her arms.”            “Shit….I’ve heard of this up in the upper states but I didn’t think it would be happening here,” he spoke.            “What the hell is going on Angelo.”            “Trafficking…halfbreeds….its not something that only happens to humans,” Angelo says, “Sometimes hunters will take in half breed kids and try to turn them to infiltrate groups….if they cant…they kill them. Other humans humans I’ve heard will sell the kids off to labs….you can pretty much guess what happens afterwards.”            “Hey Angelo…what’s the hold up,” this big burly guy with a couple of vampires from what looked like followed behind him.            “Jax….over here,” he spoke.            “So what’s with the human cop,” one of the others spoke.            “How the hell you know I’m a cop,” Connor spoke out as he looked to him.            “You smell like pig….mixed with a bit of wolf,” he spoke as he took a few steps closer.            “Hey. Hey….watch your ass….he’s a friend….besides….he’s a cop with higher up friends and if you decide to do something stupid I can pretty much guarantee the only one to pay is you,” Angelo said as he glanced to him.            “Don’t get your panties in a twist….just having a bit of fun with him,” he spoke.          “It’s kids….,” Jackson spoke as he looked inside the crate. “Fuck.”            “I can smell the silver….they didn’t have a chance,” Jax the larger of the three spoke.            “Fucking humans,” Arlo says as he looks into the other crate and then to Connor. “No offense dude.”            “None taken….how in the hell is this even able to be cleaned up,” he asked Angelo.            “You really don’t want to know,” Jax spoke as the other two walked out and came back in with a couple of containers of what looked like gas in each hand.            “You cant do this….,” Connor spoke out.            Angelo walked over to him as he spoke, “It’s the only way to deal with the situation….Right now….find her before she does something really stupid. Her anger is at a real high peak right now I can feel it.”            “Shit….where is she,” he says, “Do you know?”            “Downtown….old apartments….on fifth an Detroit…..your connection should be able to track her the rest of the way as long as you stay focused,” he spoke.            Angelo takes his car keys out and tosses him the keys as he says, “Find her….go. Besides you don’t want to be here to see this.”            “Alright,” he spoke as he ran out, taking one more look as he left the building.            Meanwhile in the downtown lower district, she was able to track down the scents of the men at that the facility. She parked out front of the old apartment as she got out of her car as she slid off her coat as she tossed it to the side. She looked up at the building as she made her way inside. Their was graffiti all over the walls as she took the steps to track them down, eight flights were nothing to her as she walked out into the main hallway where loud music was blasting through the way.            A elder woman with her child was walking out of the elevator, Eva brought her finger up to her lips as to motion the woman to keep quiet. She walked over as she spoke in a soft tone to the elder woman.            “You gonna cause trouble to like our rat infestation,” she says in a slightly gruff tone as she looked up to Eva.             “No….consider me….like a exterminator with a badge,” Eva told her as she knelt down.            “I bet you like cartoons right,” she says, “I bet your mom today will let you watch them right when you get home….”                    She looks up to the elder woman as she says, “Really loud to enjoy them.”            The older woman takes her son hand and walks him to the door quickly as she unlocks the door and before she goes inside with her son; she heard thank you before the door was slammed shut. Eva walked over to the door at the end of the hallway as the music blared, she could smell them. The anger continue to rise in her and before reason could kick in her more primal ways took over as she kicked down the door and stepped in.            “What the fuck….            “Bitch….who the fuck are you….            She leaned her head up slightly as she felt her bones beginning to creak and distort as her eyes changed to their pale blue color.            “They were just children….just children….your about to experience the same pain…..immensely you…Fucking filth            Were the last words she said before she finished transforming, only a few got a few shots off before she tracked and tore into each one of them. Not one of them had a chance in hell against her, even though she took a few gun shots and stabbings it didn’t matter. The only thing that was running through her head was those dead kids by the time she was finished, she was the only one standing when she turned back.            “Eva…Eva….            She turned as she looked to him as he was a hazy mess at first and she looked to him as she says,  “Connor.”            She looked up to him as she passed out against him as he caught her before she could fall. He grabbed a tattered jacket as he wrapped her up in it as he took her out of the building and put her in the backseat of her car trying to make her comfortable. He got in the front seat as he pulled out his cell as he pulled up Angelo’s number.             ++ring++ring++            “I found her…..That clean up crew of yours….they need to clean up this scene,” he says, “It was a total blood fucking bath….I’ve never seen her loose control like that.”            “She’s an Alpha…Eva’s never released on emotion before,” Angelo says, “Get her home….I’ll get the cleaners to take care of the situation. Get her home…Ill get my car at the complex.”            “Thanks again Angelo.”            “It’s nothing.”            When he hung up, he heard a slightly groan in the back seat as he stared at her over his shoulder as he thought, “Baby…what the fuck happened to you.”            Later on that night….            He was able to slip her in the house, it took him a while to get her cleaned up and when he went to check her wounds out they were nearly gone. Her healing abilities seemed to have quickened and hell things just seem different. He slipped her under the sheets and try to get her comfortable. He grabbed a shower while she slept, afterwards he slipped on a pair of boxers and went downstairs to grab a beer from the fridge. When he closed the fridge, he twisted the top off and took a drink as he walked over and sat on the couch.            As he took another drink, he heard a slight movements and he looked towards the stairs and saw her standing there with the sheet wrapped around her.             “You’ve seen the worst of me,” she spoke in almost a whisper.            “Come here, baby,” he spoke simply.            She walks over as she wraps her arms around his chest as he picks her up and sits back on the couch with her on his lap as he held her in his arms. Eva curled up in his arms, Connor had never seen her like this.             “I’m a monster,” she spoke unable to look at him.            He grasped her chin as he brought her gaze up to his as he forced her too look at him as he says, “You’re a survivor…not a monster; baby even if you were a monster….I would still feel the same way about you…that I feel now. I love you.”            She looks up at him as she wraps her arms around his neck as she laid her head on his shoulder as she says, “I’m not the same Eva….the one you met. I had to do things to protects everyone…to protect you.”            “I told you…baby….whenever you were ready to talk I’d listen,” he says, “We’re together….I’m not going anywhere.”            “I think I’m ready to talk….it’s a lot,” she says, “If you still wanna listen.”            He slipped his fingertips through her long ivory black hair as he pressed his lips to her forehead as he says, “Baby….I’m here….I’m not going anywhere.”
