18 Bond of Pain

1848 Words

Caroline POV I reach the office just as the guard arrives with Judith. He bears his neck to me and I lead her inside. We both take our seats and I notice a folder she is holding close to her chest. Without a word, she passes me the folder. I place it down on my desk and look into her eyes. I can see sadness and pain in her eyes that is all too familiar to me. Before I even ask her what happened to make her run from Bernard, she starts to tell me. I push thoughts of Donavon away as she relives every sordid detail of Bernard's betrayal. Tears stream down her face but we both stay rooted to our seats. Clover is the only one that knows how broke I was after I killed Donavon. Not because I was sorry for what I did, but because I felt the grief of losing my pup and the mate I thought he was.
