“Deal,” I respond, not thinking about what I was saying beyond wanting to hear whatever she’d been thinking about since her eyes had been watching the space over my shoulder with a remoted expression for some time before she’d spoken, my thought still attached to the tentative ideas surrounding the angel and how we could use her to tip the board. But that could wait, after all, Amber promised me she’d say what she’d been thinking about first. Meaning I had a few more minutes to figure out what I was saying. “Okay, deal then.” She rolls her eyes at me and I find myself smiling. Fighting back a laugh at how incorrigible she is. “So I was thinking about what advantages we have that they don’t.” Amber’s words strike a chord with those of us still here since we all look at her with open looks
