He knew that the flowers weren’t going to make everything up to her, only by talking through it and sorting it all out, him learning not to lose his temper and be calm with her, regardless of what she said or did, and he knew she was going to continue to try and push his buttons.
Because he’d grabbed her and bruised her yet again, shown to her that he didn’t care about hurting her. That’s why she’d said he had to force himself to be around her. Because she believed that was what he was doing. He needed to spend more time with her, be in close proximity to her to help their very broken bond start to regrow.
