Ash’s POV:
Hours passed and neither Leila nor I moved. Both happy just to be curled up together and away from the madness that’s no doubt waiting on the edges to pull us back in. She’s been silent for a while and when I turn my head I can see she’s asleep, her head on my back, and her eyes closed making her look a lot more innocent and carefree. Because when she sleeps you can’t see the pain in her eyes. Or hear it in her voice. You can believe she’s just like anyone else.
Ash? We need you and Leila back now. I’m tempted to ignore the order in favour of letting my angel sleep longer but it came from Jackson meaning that if I disobeyed him I’d be in trouble.
