Ash’s POV:
“What happened?” I can hear someone talking but it sounds like I’m hearing them from the bottom of a deep well. “She’s breathing. Leila’s alive.” Those words. Those words are what I’d been waiting to hear. She’s alive. That’s all that matters right now. “But I can’t answer that question.” After a few moments of muttering before that, I couldn’t catch those words that resonated with me and were confusing.
“Can’t answer what?” I ask, sitting up slowly to see the room spinning slightly. Mara and Eris had been standing with Chalice who was sitting next to Leila where she still hadn’t moved. “Can’t answer what?” Anger sparks in me, safe and reassuring, but I fight it down. Remembering what happened last time I did that and the damage it could have caused. “Where did Rosa go?”
