AMELIA’S POV The past two years have been excruciating for me. The only respite I would ever get would be during school hours. I was just thankful at this point that I was still allowed to go to school. I had been basically shunned by everyone, the other kids in school (mostly werewolves from a couple of neighbouring packs) would bully me. Yes, I know I used the word respite. Because compared to my treatment at ‘home’, it was much easier to take and deal with. Since all of us were still pretty young the maximum my classmates would do would be to call me names or throw my books around.  Everyday went by in the same manner, except my need to get out of here increased daily. It was almost my ninth birthday and I had decided that I would leave around my 10th birthday which would give me almost a year to gather some cash, other resources that I might need, along with enough time to research on where I could possibly go.  But of course the goddess as usual had other plans for me. This birthday of mine brought another change to my life, however, unlike the previous years I ended up quite liking this one.  It was two days before my birthday when I felt it for the first time. It was an intense headache, this goddess awful pressure of something trying to make its way through my brain. I thought (and honestly prayed) that this was it, that death had finally come a calling. Which in a way she had, but that is for a later part of the story.  The pressure became increasingly difficult to bear over the next two days to an extent that I fainted while cooking dinner on the eve of my birthday. Someone was ‘kind’ enough to throw me into my room, yes throw me. And I know this because when I woke up I was on the floor and there was a bump on my forehead. It was a great start to turning nine. I was stretching my stiff body and rubbing my wound when a voice came out of nowhere. “Hello Amelia!” I was startled and fell back on the floor. “Who-o-o-o is th-ee-re?” my voice came out all shaky and scared, I was sure it was one of the pack members here to give me a beating for not finishing dinner last night and were just hiding to make me more afraid, and it was working. “P-le-as-e d-do-n'-t h-u-urt-t me-e. I-I wil-ll wo-r-k ha-arde-rr t-t-oda-y,” I continued. There was no reply for almost a minute.  “I’m not here to hurt you Amelia, on the contrary, I’m here to help and support you. Together we can do anything.” Naturally I was skeptical, there was no one in the pack who would want to help me, so I just kept shut and gave no response, still waiting for them to get the prank and the beating over with.  “I’m not another pack member Amelia. I’m you, well the animal part of you. I’m your wolf Zelda.” The voice sounded really powerful towards the end, which surprised me even more. How could I possibly have a strong and powerful wolf? It just wasn’t possible. So naturally I thought the voice was lying. “You’re lying, you sound really powerful, so you can’t possibly be my wolf. Please just do whatever you have to and please don’t hurt me too much. That is all I ask.” It took Zelda a whole 30 minutes to convince me that she was indeed my wolf and that no one was hiding out in my room ready to beat me up. Once she finally had me convinced I naturally had a lot of questions.  A: “But Zelda how are you already here? I’m only nine, I’m not supposed to get you till I turn 14. And why do you sound so powerful? What is the meaning of all of this? You said you could help me? What did you mean when you said that together we can do anything? And-” Z: “okay okay relax. I know you have a lot of questions, and I have most of the answers. But right now you need to quickly get ready, I think I hear someone coming towards us. Oh and Amelia one extremely important thing, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TELL ANYONE ABOUT ME YET. Do you understand? I’ll explain everything as soon as I can but for now find a spray to cover up your scent and stay under the radar to whatever extent possible.” Before I could reply, my brother stormed into my room and yelled “WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE STILL DOING HERE? YOU DIDN’T EVEN FINISH DINNER LAST NIGHT AND NOW YOU ARE GOING TO BE LATE TO MAKE BREAKFAST. GET YOUR ASS MOVING BEFORE I DO IT FOR YOU. MOVE IT …. NOW!”
