CHAPTER 16. Co’s Residence

Doctor Michael’s parents were having dinner when Doctor Michael came in.
“Good evening Mom. Good evening Dad,” he greeted his parents and joined them at their dining table.
“You seemed to be so busy nowadays Michael?” his mother asked him while putting her steak on her mouth.
“Just a bit busy Mom. Need to attend some important errands,” he said while starting to put some menu on his plate. He doesn’t want to talk about Marnie yet to his parents especially to his mother.
They were arranging his marriage to one of his childhood friends who is also a doctor and he doesn’t want them to invade his private and personal affair with them. He doesn’t want to get married to someone he doesn’t love at all.
“Alright. I would like to remind you of your anniversary next month son. We might as well announce your engagement then,” his mother told them straight.
Doctor Michael doesn’t want to offend his mother now especially since they were having their family dinner.
“Got it, Mom,” he replied. It will be next month and he can still plan about it.
Marnie is quite doing well now. He is planning to court her as he liked this young lady so much. But it seemed that courting will be a long process, he is planning to propose to her to marry him instead.
It’s not just that Marnie will save him from marrying somebody else but he liked to take care of her under his roof already.
The elder Doctor Co was so quiet as if he is not interested in his son got engaged or not. As much as he want to, he wanted his son to stand on his own. If he doesn't want the engagement being arranged by her mother, he can refute it. He doesn't want to invade his son's private life especially his love life. He had been there before, Doctor Michael was the product of his arranged marriage with his wife Doctora Co now.
He doesn't love her at that time but since it was arranged by their parents, he had no choice then. He doesn't want to repeat the same mistake he did before. It was just fate that he learned to love his wife now but it took so many years then.
It was just when she gave birth to their only son Doctor Michael, she almost lost her life and their baby as well. Both were in critical; condition and since then, he learned to love her already. But given a chance, he should have loved her before by courting her rather than marrying her against his will that time.
"Michael, are you really in favor of your upcoming engagement with Doctor Garcia. You still have your choice. You can voice out okay," the elder Doctor Co can't help himself but to say what's inside his head.
"What are you saying to Michael," Mrs. Co was offended. She doesn't want to be offended by his husband in front of their son.
"I just want him to decide on his own. That's it," he said. He knew that he was now igniting the fire of anger with his wife once again.
Doctor Michael continued to eat. He was used to eating. The love-hate relationship of his parents. He salutes his father for still living with his mother for this long. This was the main reason why he doesn't want to stay in their home, there's no peace here.
He just finished his meal and he decided to leave them already. It's much better to rest in his condominium. Living alone since he was a college student taught him how to be independent.
"Thanks, Mom for a sumptuous dinner. I'll go ahead, Mom and Dad. Don't worry Dad, I've been thinking about it already," he said to his father.
"See, you are teaching our son to disobey me," she yelled the elder Doctor Co.
"Are you done? Do you want him to be like us? Living like a hell of fire every day," he didn't finish his meal and stood up already and left Mrs. Co alone in the dining area.
He followed his son walking to their garage, "If you love someone, chase her. You don't need to go on an arranged engagement as planned by your Mom. Don't be like us. You can give your children and wife a happy family," he said.
Doctor Michael appreciates his father so much. He was too considerate and with a wide sense of wisdom. He loves having a conversation with his father every time he's with him.
He loved his mother but he doesn't want her to be manipulative since he was a kid.
It was just his father balances everything for their family.
It's one of the main reasons why he can't just bring up that he was planning to marry the woman he loves, and it was Marnie. He knew that his mother won't like Marnie as she like Doctor Garcia to be his fiancee.
He was having a headache with his mother already.
He drove his car back to his condo in Quezon City.
He messaged Marnie," Hi how are you? Are you sleepy already? Don't forget to take your medicines okay," he said.
Marnie, on the other hand, giggled when she read his message.
"All done already Doctor, I mean Michael. I was about to sleep already," she replied with a smiley emoji.
"Alright, good night then, and have a sweet sleep," he said.
Doctor Michael went to his mini bar and get a glass of red wine. This will help him sleep well.
He had been thinking of Marnie for quite so long and made him so many sleepless nights.
He was so happy that he had visited her already. No more words can't explain how happy he was. He knew that he loves her already. He loves her so much and he is much willing to cancel the engagement with Doctor Garcia. He knew that he will disappoint his mother. But this time he will not let her manipulate his life.
He loves Marnie and he will stand with it. He will fight for Marnie. No one can harm her even if it will be his mother.
