“Damon, can we talk” I call to him in his bedroom, where he has been since we got back off the boat. I wait for a couple minutes, and Damon still doesn’t emerge. We haven’t spoken a word since we were in the water, but I need to know what the bruises are from. “Damon” I call again and walk to his door. I have never been in his room before, and I don’t want to break his privacy by barging in on him, but if he isn’t going to come out, I am going in. I decide that I need to take this like a Band-Aid, just get it over and done with. I push open his door and look over at the boy, sniffing white powder up his nose.
