chapter 2:

The howling of wolf broke the silence of the night. The only other sound that could be heard was hooting of owl and chirp of crickets. Moon had hidden behind the clouds that allowed it to grace me with it's silver light every now and then before disappearing behind the fast moving clouds. I let my senses take over as I let them guide me to a particular man who had been avoiding me for a few days now. The woody, masculine smell with an overwhelming scent of a wet dog entered my nostrils making them wrinkles a bit in distaste. The smell of the pack should have been used to me by now but it was still irritating in a corner of my mind. I noiselessly crawled further, straining my ears to pick up any sound. The scared squeaks of young pups who stayed indoors reached me, I could hear their mothers using my description to keep them there. Very original, I must admit. I rolled my eyes at it sarcastically. The warriors patrolling marched down the roads as I peered down at them. At the moment, I felt like a panther sitting on the tree branch with a Momma bird looking at me quizzically from the branch parallel to mine. It titled its head to regard me silently, contemplating whether or not to raise an alarm, alerting the escape of a blood sucking creature on the premises. Before it could come to a solid decision, I launched to my feet and jumped towards the roof of the nearest structure. I still didn't know many of the buildings around this area. The habitable had made it clear of how unwelcomed I was. I grabbed the ledge of the top widow of an unlit room and climbed up. I grabbed the arch of the window to pull myself over the roof of the structure. My ultra sharp sight took in the scenic beauty of the place. This place was somewhere deep in the jungles, surrounded by low hills. I turned around searching for the biggest structure in this small village. The structure that they referred to as the pack house, where their alpha was staying. During the course of last few days, I had learnt to enjoy the pros of being a vampire. I enjoyed using the speed, strength and agility. And how could I forget about my sharp senses and the new and developed intuition? It was a new world to me, even after my existence of 18 years now. When my eyes finally found what they had been searching for, I sprinted forward just to jump onto the roof of the next house. There wasn't any sound. I landed like a cat on her nails. I looked at the patrolling guards to see if they had noticed any movement but they were all busy staring off into the jungle. I repeated my action till the next structure was the pack house. Almost all the lights were on inside, giving me a clear visual of what was happening inside. In one of the room, a teenager rolled on her bed talking over her phone. She kept giggling and telling, "no, you are cuter." I tuned out her voice and concentrated on the next one. There were two boys sitting before a monitor with joysticks and kept shouting profanities and insensible sounds. Rolling my eyes at the cliché sights before me, I started filtering out the unnecessary sounds till I found something that was of use. "Urdahl has shut herself in her giant book hole again. Alpha was asking Oracle to talk her out of it. After all, she's an elder and behaving like a child doesn't serve her right," one of the ladies nagged. "Yeah, she's been doing that in these last few days. Only keeps telling that it's not long before the curse is broken and alpha return back to normal," another one gossips. "With that leech? I doubt it. She won't last for long here, anyway. Even though, he's raising the barrier to prevent her from going out," the first one added making me furrow my brows. I had no doubt that she was referring me by leech but what made me contemplate was the last statement. Raising the barrier? What was he doing to keep me here? I tried listening in but they chatted about random pack member before walking out of the room chuckling. I changed my position by jumping on to the house on the other side of the pack house and finally found what I had been searching for, Alpha Duke's office. He was talking about something with other two wolves. I concentrated and tuned in to listen what they were talking about. "Daphne is the only option. She's the only most powerful witch not involved with any covenant," one of them exhaled like he had been on war for centuries. "She not being in a covenant points out that she isn't powerful enough to stand against the others," another one said. "Only if Oracle was strong enough," Duke sighed in frustration. "Urdahl is though," the first one voiced. "But she would never agree to do it," another one countered. "I will just have to use my alpha tone on her then," Duke sounded determined. Then someone came and opened the window and immediately all the discussion was ceased. I tried to strain my hearing ability to try to understand what was happening in there, when all of a sudden I heard him, "Elizabeth." Sucking in a knockout breath, I hid behind the terracotta tiles of the roof when Duke came by to stand by the window, scanning the area around him. He inhaled deeply, his nostrils flaring. "I know you're out there, Lizzy. You better come out before I search for you," his tone was serious making me crawl back. If my heart had been beating, it would have hammered out of my chest Thank goodness, it had stopped beating. When I was out of the sight, I turned around to jump back to my place when I found that the night guards were crawling all over the place. Oh, oh... Looks like I was trapped from all sides.
