There was that second-grade teacher of Janey’s who used the word “choices” seven hundred times in any given conversation, especially when Janey had done something that Mrs. Arnoult didn’t like. There was also that cashier at the Sunshine Mart who smacked her gum, licked her fingers when counting money (usually more than once per transaction), and always said something nasty about the customer she had just checked out.
