Something in Bethany’s gut told her this just as much as her brain warned her that with the other women willing to give Bethany and Laurel away, that it was time for them to move, whether or not they had all the details ironed out. Worse yet, if they didn’t get out soon, Bethany wasn’t sure Laurel would make it, because currently, Laurel had retreated even further into herself, so far she hadn’t answered any of Bethany’s questions or remarks. So Bethany worked at the lock on her door with the keys from inside her cage, hoping against hope that no one would come down the stairs.
