The rest of the ride to White Moon was divided between listening attentively to Kit as he told me about his lost love, and raging silently against Cassie. As if I needed another reason to do so. It seemed so silly to be envious of someone who was no longer here; more than that though, it was profoundly wrong to ask Kit to forget about Emma completely, as if she had never existed. Our two situations were vastly different, yet I found I could share an echo of his grief, though I had of course lost my first mate under very, very different circumstances.
