Chapter Seventeen Theo’s journey back to London easily ranked among his least favourite ever. Not that he had travelled especially often, but that did not matter. A worse trip could scarcely be imagined. A sensation perilously close to alarm, but which he refused to term anything of the sort, kept him on edge throughout the day, and since the need for haste had prompted him to urge his driver on to all possible speed, his progress towards London was the bouncing, jolting, rattling sort that left him with a strong headache.
