The Starminster estate had lost none of its splendour since Gussie’s last visit, despite Lord Maundevyle’s unfortunate encounter with the roof. If anything, it had grown even grander.
‘I am almost positive it was not this big before,’ said Gussie, head once more stuck out of the open window, as the Werth travelling coach drew up to the mansion house. ‘Can a building embiggen itself?’
‘Embiggen?’ said Lady Werth, as yet unenlightened by a glimpse of the Maundevyle home.
‘Enlargen,’ Gussie allowed.
‘I am not sure that is a word either.’
Great-Aunt Honoria, too impatient to await the stopping of the coach or the opening of the doors, drifted upwards, and passed through the roof. ‘It is larger!’ she called. ‘I could almost swear to it.’
