I'm at school, sitting cross-legged on a park bench, my laptop balanced on my knees as the warm breeze ruffles my hair. Columbia’s campus park is buzzing with students, some sprawled out on the grass, others pacing around on phone calls or studying in groups. It’s a rare moment of peace in the middle of a hectic semester, and I plan to take full advantage of it.
My fingers move swiftly across the keyboard, adjusting the financial projections for my startup class assignment. A mock pitch deck for a venture capital proposal, which would be a lot easier to focus on if my brain didn’t keep zoning out every five minutes. I exhale through my nose, tapping the trackpad in frustration.
Then a calm voice says, “Hello, Sunshine.”
Every single nerve in my body recognizes that voice.
