“So, it’s true? You’re in a relationship with Roman Lennox? All this time, Lyra?” Sydney’s voice was a mix of disbelief and excitement as she leaned forward across the small café table. Her wide brown eyes scanned my face like she was waiting for me to c***k a joke.
I sipped my coffee, feeling heat rise to my cheeks. “Yeah, well… things were progressing between us, but it escalated faster than either of us expected.” I tried to sound nonchalant, but even to my ears, it sounded rehearsed.
