Maximus leads me out further, just past the opening of our den, down past some of the larger boulders, the very one’s I climbed multiple times to be reunited with him, the memory isn’t lost on him. It’s actually why he feels the most comfortable here, as though there is no better fortress than one I know and feel confident in, but that’s not why we’ve stepped foot outside. My eye travels along the ground, still looking for a reason for the little specs when I realize they’re decorating the entire night sky, blown apart from a center core floating just beyond the ridge’s plateau.
