Ch 5 - Shock
Zak POV:
Watching the police drag Vince from the room, we all stayed silent at the sudden change in events. Catching Logans eyes, they were wide as he looked between the police and our Pres.
"Church is over, we will continue at a later date. I think it goes without saying, do not utter a word of what has transpired today" Leo warns us all, clearly dismissing us from the room as he walks over to sit beside our Pres. Looking across at Logan, I catch his eye jerking my head to outside, before I glance around the room, hoping to catch the fiery hair of the woman who has just come barreling right back into my life.
Rushing outside, I see a smart Ford Ranger parked up and note that it must be Nadia's, but I see no sign of her.
"What the f**k was that about?" Logan exclaims as he comes to stand beside me. "That woman is a f*****g badass, man it gets my d**k hard just mentioning her."
"Don't say that" I snap at him as I step towards him angrily. Instead of looking shocked, his face splits into a wide grin.
"I knew it" he smirks. "I could tell something was up this morning, I'm guessing its to do with Nadia, or was it Flames?" He chuckles.
"I honestly met her last night, literally when I was f*****g Tanya" I moan to him as his eyes widen in amusement at my embarassment.
"Good luck with that" he smirks. "Pres didn't recognise her, that's awkward."
"Just a little" I grimace as I look around the compound. Seeing a flash of red, I glance at Logan who has also noticed. "I'll be back in a bit."
"Yeah brother, no worries. Good luck with that" he laughs as I flip him off and begin to follow Nadia. Reaching the back of the cub house,I look around confused when I see no sign of her. After a moment I see another hint of red glinting in the midday sun near the trees at the back. Walking down, I stop as I see her sat staring at the small pond out back.
Moving quietly, I sit beside her. "That was something flames" I chuckle softly.
"I clearly don't do things in halves do I" she mutters, but there is no trace of the earlier confidence in her voice. Looking over her, I see the sadness in her eyes as she stares out in front of her.
"You don't" I agree quietly. "I'm sorry to hear about your mum."
With a shaky sigh, she tilts her head up basking in the sunlight. "I like to think she's looking down on me and would be happy with the justice ive brought today. But that's wishful thinking" she murmurs.
Unsure of what to say next, I sit beside her for a few more moments, giving her my silent support.
"You don't have to stay with me you know, I'm sure Benjamin will be rallying you all round soon enough" she says quietly as I frown slightly at her words.
"I don't have to, but I want to" I settle on saying. "As for Pres, I think he's going to be quiet for a bit. I don't want to badmouth him but f**k me darlin, you've really opened our eyes to some things. The fact he's your dad is crazy enough."
"He's no father of mine" she says coldly, sadness marring her beautiful face. "What he did to my mother is unforgivable. Imagine having a newborn baby and finding w***e after w***e keeping your mans d**k wet. It makes me sick."
"Who is Abigail?" I ask her quietly, as I rack my brains trying to remember ever hearing her name before.
"She was my sister, Benjamin's third child that I'm aware of" she mutters.
"Was?" I repeat, catching up on the use of past tense.
"Dead' is all she says, wanting to press to find out more I refrain myself knowing she needs this time to process everything.
"So what now?' I ask her.
"f**k knows, probably go back to my house and drown my sorrows in a bottle of wine" she chuckles darkly. "I thought I'd feel better after getting this out the way, but I don't. At least not right now.”
"I think you will in time" I tell her quietly as I flit my eyes over her stiff frame. "It's just brought up bad memories and clearly seeing them has drained you a little."
"Yeah" she sighs. "I'll feel better tomorrow, I know I will" she says offering me a sad smile as her green eyes meet mine.
"Good, cos I kinda dig the take no s**t attitude you rock"I wink at her as a small smile graces her lips.
"It's been known to get me in some trouble" she smirks back as a faint blush hits her cheeks.
"Now that I'd like to see" I chuckle before I stand and offer her my hand. Taking it, I help her up and we stand there for a moment just looking at one another. "Look" I sigh, "I know we didn't meet under the best circumstances."
With a slight grimace she nods in agreement, "you could say that."
"Yes, not my best moment" I frown kicking myself inwardly. “But what I'm trying to say is, if you need a friend or just someone to talk to about...all of this. Then I'm here."
Falling quiet for a moment, she studies my eyes as if trying to sense any lies falling from my lips. "Thank you Zak" she says quietly, for a moment she looks vulnerable and I squeeze her hand softly before letting go.
"Come by tomorrow, we are having a party. I'm sure it'll still be going ahead despite everything. I
notced you still liked Leo, I'm sure Cleo will be there as well if you're nervous about coming" I tell her as we begin walking back slowly.
"I don't know Zak" she says with a small frown. "Being back here is tough."
"It's just an offer" I reply with a small shrug. "See how you feel tomorrow."
"Thanks" she smiles at me as we reach the compound. Seeing my brothers loitering around, their attention all falls on Nadia as her face hardens and all early traces of vulnerability disappear before she efficiently walks her way through the crowd to her truck.
"NADIA" I hear Leo shout as he strides over to us, concern etched across his aging face. "Girl, how you doing?” He asks his voice full of concern.
"I'm fine" she tells him with a small smile and a squeeze of his arm, "I just needed a few moments to be close to them."
Furrowing my brows as I don't understand her words, I see Leos face soften as he clearly knows what she meant by her words. “Come by tomorrow, I've told Cleo you're finally home.."
"Zak has mentioned it" she tells him. "Ill see how I feel yeah? But here.." she says as she grabs some paper from her bag and scribbles something down. "This is my number now, I’ve bought a house not far from here. Text me and I'll keep in touch, I'll let you know about tomorrow."
"Alright Darlin, look after yourself. Your mum would be proud" he whispers as he pulls her in to a strong bear hug.
"I hope so" she murmurs as she pulls herself away.
"Enjoy your wine Flames" I tell her quietly as she climbs into her truck.
"I plan on" she replies with a wink to us all and a forced smile on her face. “I have a large bottle with my name on. See ya fellas, and Zak..thank you."
"Anytime sweetheart" I say raising my hand in a wave before she starts up her engine and reverses out the compound.
"Now Zac' I hear Leo say quietly as the brothers all watch her go. "I don't think I have to warn you that if you mess with her, I'll make sure you pay."
Rolling my eyes at him, I nod before speaking knowing full well he means every quiet word, “I know, but I don't plan on messing with her at all."
"Well it looks like you'll have competition" he smirks in amusement as my eyes flit between the brothers, all of whom have faces of open awe and hunger in their eyes.
"No s**t" I mutter before turning and stomping back inside.
