The heavy door slammed shut behind him as Lucien stood there for a long moment, his hand still pressed flat against the wood, his chest rising and falling as his head bowed as if the door itself was the only thing holding him back from marching inside and destroying the fragile little creature he had chained to the bed. Behind the door, the sound of her sobs broke through. The air outside the room was thick with her.
