As I walked out of Nathaniel's room I did my best to avoid the stares of the guards who had just seen me naked. I also had to ignore their whispered comments.
“The princess is a slut,” One of them laughed under his breath.
Kaya growled in my head, and I could feel her trying to surface, but I held her back. ‘It’s not worth the fight,’ I tell her.
‘I don’t like it here,’ She growls.
I go up the stairs and see my mother standing near the top with tears in her eyes. My brother Tolliver is a few feet away, eyeing me. My mother rushes up to me with her arms out. “I thought we had lost you again.” She squeezes me and sobs onto my shoulder.
