Natalya had abandoned the socks she’d started Friday night. She’d only started them because she could do socks in her sleep and it had kept her hands busy while everyone talked around her, mostly about Becky’s honeymoon in Hawaii. Instead of continuing the socks, Natalya had poked through the skeins in Becky’s converted g*n cabinet. She’d bought the glass-fronted mahogany piece for ten dollars from the fire hall’s annual garage sale, when everyone in town exchanged their junk with each other and the rest went to Goodwill in the Valley. Natalya had walked right by it but with typical Beckyness, she’d seen more.
