CHAPTER 10

1885 Words
NYSSAS POV I am woken up early in the morning by the chanting of my roommate, Halimah, who is a Djinn. She's a hybrid like me but is half witch and half Djinn. She's plump and short with beautiful wavy, short, brown hair and caramel skin, which she always covers up with colourful head scarves, and her favourite attires are loose, free clothes. She has beautiful brown doe eyes with a small nose, which has a nose ring and chubby cheeks with a beauty spot above her chin, giving her a baby look. We met when I came back from the school hospital, and I realised she's the one I bumped into on the night of Nyssas rejection. She's very funny, easy to talk to, and loves to read. Nyssa and Lisa like her as well, which I am grateful for. I have been placed under house arrest until the date of my hearing with the school panel, which is today. Nysss tells me not to worry about anything, but it's difficult not to be worried. I am told the two princes with the girl I beat up have also been prevented from leaving their rooms. I get up from my bed and go to do my business. When I come out of the bathroom, Halimah is done praying and dressing up to go to class. I sit in front of my vanity mirror and try to style my long hair. 'Let me help you,' I hear Halimah say, and I give her the comb, looking at her through the mirror as she styles my hair. 'Can I ask you something?' she says, parting my hair. 'Sure,' I respond, picking up my locket to put it on. 'Who taught you the teleportation spell, and how long did it take for you to learn it?' . 'Why do you ask?' 'I want to know if it's something I can do,' Halimah says 'I was only six when I read about the spell in my grandmothers library, but when I tried to use it; I ended up getting stuck in a wall, with only my head sticking out.' She bursts into laughter and I join her. 'So what happened?' she asks as she continues styling my hair. 'My grandmother was furious. When she finally got me out of the wall, she barred me from using magic. It wasn't until I turned thirteen that the ban was lifted, and she showed me how to do it by herself.' 'How long did the lessons take?' 'She only showed me once.' 'But I hear teleportation takes years of practice and lots of astral energy. Many witches don't even attempt to learn it because it can kill their familiar and go wrong in many ways.' 'It's not so difficult once you get the hang of it. The most important thing is to keep your mind clear and focused on the destination you wish to transport any item.' 'Can you teach me the spell?' I look at her through the mirror, and she looks back at me with a puppy face in anticipation of my answer. 'No' 'Why not?' 'Because right now I am nervous about my the outcome of my hearing and also I am not trained to teach magic. Also, we can not forget that you haven't earned your familiar yet.' 'Firstly, you don't have to worry about the hearing. A hero will come to your rescue, and you will be known as the heart of a dragon.' 'What?' 'And the dragon king and queen will like you very much. Just trust your friends, but more importantly, trust your heart, and you'll be fine.' 'Who told you that?' I respond surprised. 'I dreamt about it, and my dreams always come true. Plus, back to the matter at hand, you don't have a familiar either.' 'You dreamt about that too?' 'No! I have never seen it.' 'My familiar is always with me,' I say to her If you have one, where is it?' she asks crossing her hands beneath her breasts c*****g up her left eye. I chuckle before responding, 'Just because you can't find it doesn't mean it's not real.' 'That sounds wise, who taught it to you? Your grand mother?' I smile before responding, 'No, I got it from a dream.' 'A dream?' 'When I was little, I had this recurring dream. I saw an old man with the colour of my eyes and he did tricks, talked with me and played with me to make me laugh. I called him wise man Sam. He taught me many things one of them being what I just said.' 'That sounds odd, didn't you ever ask about the dreams from anyone?' she remarks picking up hair pins and placing them in my hair. 'I asked my grandma but she said he's probably just my imagination and that it explained why I was always tired in the morning, so she started making me tea to help me sleep better and I stopped seeing him.' 'Is that the tea I see you drink sometimes.' 'You ask a lot of questions?' I respond 'What! I can't help it if I am curious.' 'Curiosity killed the cat.' 'Please, the proverbial cat was probably on its ninth life and almost dead already. How do we know it didn't die from malnutrition or diarrhea.' she remarks and we both look at each other through the mirror and start laughing hysterically. I pick up a hairpin in my hand and focus on it, the hair pin bends inward until it forms a perfect circle. 'Wow' Halimah says as I place it in her hand. 'The most difficult part of teleportation is keeping the mind focused from the beginning till the end of the journey. if you can straighten this pin perfectly with your mind and curl it back up again, I will teach you how to teleport.' 'Really! Thanks Nicarra.' she says placing down the pin and finishing my hair. 'There, all done' she says after a few more minutes. I look at myself in the mirror and smile at the results. My hair is braided on both sides of my head with a slant. The braids meet on the left base of my neck and join to form a big, long twist which hangs over my left shoulder. 'Thanks Halimah' I say 'Most welcome my teacher' she says and giggles, walking over to her school bag and slinging it over her shoulder. 'Nicarra' she says and I turn to look at her. 'Insha Allah, everything is going to be okay, so don't worry.' I smile at her and she smiles back before walking out and shutting the door. My phone rings and I pick it up trying to find an appropriate dress to wear. 'Hello' I say 'Where you Nicarra?' I hear Nyssa whispering. 'In my room, why what's wrong? Why are you whispering?' . 'I'm in the closet of my room with Lisa. We just got summoned by dad and mum. They are in the school premises with with Lisa's parents.' 'What? When?' 'Apparently they all arrived last last night with the dragon king. That's why we had to call to check if you're okay.' 'I'm okay guys.' 'Nicarra, we don't know what's going on but you need to hide until we figure it out what's going on with our parents.' 'Guys, you have already been cleared by the council of no wrong doing, please don't get into trouble because of me.' 'Like we would leave you alone in this' I hear Lisa say from the back ground. 'Hey Lisa' I say to her. 'Hey babe' she replies taking the phone from Nyssa. 'Listen, we just need you to hide for sometime, till we know it's safe. The dragon king is very powerful and dangerous when angry. Stay somewhere safe, we'll call you when we know it's ok to come out.' 'But...' I want to say 'Trust me' Lisa says 'Okay Lisa, I'll think of something.' 'Everything is going to be Nicarra I promise.' she finishes and gives the phone to Nyssa. 'I love you sis .' I hear Nyssa say on the phone before hanging up. I dress up and walk out of my room. Getting to the staircase I find a royal siren messenger talking to one of our resident porters. I sneak back quietly and open a maintainance closet door in the hall way where cleaning materials are kept. I look inside to find Martin, eyes closed and deep kissing a girl I have seen living here, but never spoken to. Their discarded clothes are laying at their feet as they both moan into the kiss unaware of my presence. I hear the porter and the messenger talking as they reach the top of the staircase and with little time left I enter the closet and shut the door. 'Hey!' says the girl when I bump into her, and she turns around angrily. 'Shhhh!' I respond with my finger on my lips. Her eyes bulge at the sight of me and she visibly begins to shake moving backward. Martin attempts to touch her but she screams and hits him on his nose with the back of her head. He howls holding his nose, and she screams louder, bursting out of the closet totally naked. 'What's going on over there?' I hear the porter say with several footsteps converging towards my location. With little time to concentrate, I merely think to myself where I feel safest and cast the teleportation spell. I hold the thought as I feel myself being pulled, holding my breath as I am dragged through time and space. I land on a soft surface and take a few minutes to gather my bearings. I look around me and find myself in a soft huge bed with silk covers. The room is huge with grey coloured walls. In front of me I find a huge flat screen television with lots of modern gadgets attached to it. To my left is a reading area built within a tall stack of shelves packed from top to bottom with different kinds of books. The bed is still warm, so I know the occupant just got up. I stand up quietly and try to navigate my way out of the room which smells like burning wood and reminds me of the fire place in my grandma's library. The only place I ever felt truly safe, because her presence always lingers there. My sanctuary. I hear water running and guess whoever owns this space is taking a shower so I walk towards the balcony to try and use the visuals to pin point where I want to be. I step out to the balcony and see various dragons in the air with tall, stern looking men walking below. I take a step backwards in disbelief trying to come to terms with what I had just witnessed when I suddenly hit a wall I knew wasn't there before. I turn around to stare at an eight pack torso, raising my. gaze I see a broad chest covered in tattoos. I look further up to find the crown prince staring down at me with dark red eyes smouldering eyes. How do I always get myself into these situations?
