CHAPTER SEVEN

NYSSA'S POV
'Nicarra, I'm so sorry' said a female voice.
'You've grown so beautiful my love and I am so proud of you.'
'Grandma Ellis is that you?' I ask trying to form a telepathic link as I will my eyes to open but they don't. When did I fall asleep.
'Who is there?' I ask again, frantic to get up and defend Nicarra if necessary but my body refuses to obey me.
'Be strong my hope.'
The room becomes quiet and I hear the beeping of a heart monitor. I feel groggy as I open my eyes, slowly taking in features of the environment I am in. I look around hoping to find the woman talking but the room is dark with no one here except Nicarra, wearing hospital clothes sleeping on a large bed in the room. Was I dreaming?
I smile as I lay back on my pillow looking at my closest friend, grateful for her companionship. Seita who is perched on her bed senses my consciousness and squawks. Nicarra slowly wakes up and calls for me. I put on the lights and she looks at me with a sad smile till I hug her and she begins to cry.
'Everything will be okay Nicarra. Please stop crying. Let me get a nurse.' I say standing up. She holds my hand shaking her head.
'I'm fine Nyssa' she says
I look at her unconvinced.
'I'm fine sis, really. Where are we?' Nicarra asks trying to sit up
'The school hospital, you were brought here unconscious.Why did you get into a fight? The nurses said you got into a fight with dragons and got struck by lightening. Nicarra why would you do that? You put yourself in danger and what's worse is you put your scholarship at risk?'
'He hurt you Nyssa, what was I supposed to do?'
'You were supposed to find me Nicarra' I say calmly and she face palms herself.
'Nyssa, I saw everything through Seita. How he attacked you and rejected you and my heart shattered.' she responds with tears streaming down her face again.
'Nicarra?'
'I only wanted to defend you and make him do the right thing, instead he got hurt because of me. You almost lost your mate because of me, Nyssa. I didn't mean to, I swear I didn't mean to. Please forgive me Nyssa.'
'Nicarra, please stop, none of this was your fault.' I said holding her as she sobbed on my shoulder.
'Why do I always end up hurting the ones I love Nyssa? I'm a monster'
'That's not true Nicarra. You are the kindest, bravest and most selfless person I have ever met.' I say to her holding her till she stops crying.
We hear a tap on the door and Lisa walks in looking uncomfortable. I smile at her and Lisa looks down unable to make eye contact, but I continue to stare at her curious as to why she is here.
'Hi Lisa' I say to her
'Hi,... ehm... I wanted to...ehm...check...on'
'We are fine Lisa thank you, how are your brothers?'
'They are good, Warren is out of danger. They are talking at the moment so I wanted to check on you both. Nyssa I want to apologize to you and Nicarra on behalf of Warren. He ...'
'Lisa, please don't take this the wrong way but its been a long day, I'm really tired and hungry and I need to eat. Can we please talk about this some other time? Please.' I replied
'Sure, I'll just leave.'
'I didn't ask you to leave Lisa, you look tired and in need of food and rest yourself.Come, there's a spare blanket here we'll just lay it on the floor and I'll ask Seita to bring food.'
'Is that his name? The one who took the blades for me?' Nicarra asks Lisa as she strokes the feathers on Seita's head while he moves closer to her, laying at her side on the bed. Lisa nods in response, closing the door behind her.
'You know Nicarra, you are not totally to blame for what happened. If someone were to reject my brother I would make them bleed too. Warren has his fair share of blame in the matter. Personally, I think you deserve a medal.'
Nicarra and I both look at her curiously.
'You took down several dragons by yourself in one night Only three people in history have achieved such a feat and that is the dragon king, the siren crown prince and my father. I'm glad you are on my side.'
Nicarra snorts looking at me, causing me to laugh as well.
'Are you okay Nyssa?' Lisa asks looking at me.
I smile back at her saying, 'No, like I said earlier, I'm hungry.'
'You're always hungry' says Nicarra
'I can't help it if my body keeps craving.' I respond to her.
'Hey want to see a neat trick?' I ask Lisa who turns to me. I look at Seita and say 'Seita, food.'
He rises up, flapping his wings and different kinds of junk food appears on the blanket.
'Show off' Nicarra says chuckling and I roll my eyes in response. Lisa looks at the food, clearly mesmerized by the magic. I pick up a tub of vanilla ice cream and hand it to Nicarra, knowing its her favourite. She squeals, taking it from my hand and begins to devour it. I sit on the blanket waiting for Lisa to join me. She takes off her shoes and sits besides me picking up a chocolate bar and we spend the rest of the night together, eating and talking. Moments later, I open my eyes and look beside me to find Lisa asleep on the second bed in Nicarra's room. I look at Nicarra and find that she is sprawled on her bed with Seita perched close to her also asleep. Sometimes I wonder if he's truly mine with how attached he is to her..
I open the door and walk out of the room with the intent to process all that has happened to Nicarra and I today, but find a pair of striking grey eyes staring down at me from a short distance in the hospital corridor. My enter body shivers in fright at the sight of him and my heart races as memories of his earlier actions come back to me. He tries to move closer but I step back and he stops, looking down as he places both his hands in his pockets. Beside him stands the lycan prince who's sight alone stirs my siren but apparently shares his brothers prejudice against hybrids.
'Forgive us for intruding', said the Lycan prince to me, 'but we were looking for my sister and her scent has led us here.'
'She is sleeping in the room, as is my cousin Nicarra.'
'May I see her.' says dragon prince in his deep baritone voice. I look at him, still I standing in the way unsure of his intent.
'Please, we only wish to ensure her safety.' says the lycan prince moving closer to me. I stand aside opening the door and I move to switch on the light but the lycan prince holds my hand shaking his head.Jaka my siren stirs in my head and I perceive that sweet smell again, she must really like the perfumes that lycans use, I'll have to ask Lisa the name again. They both bend down to get into the room and the raven haired lycan prince looks at his sister who continues to sleep unaware of the company. While the dragon prince places his hands in his pockets staring at Nicarra. Could Sana be right? Could dark magic be at play here?
'I need you both to leave now, we all need to rest.' I whisper to the princes after a few minutes. The lycan prince looks at me and nods but his brother continues to stare at Nicarra intensely which frightens me.
'We will come for Lisa in the morning' says the lycan prince looking at me and I nod. He walks towards the dragon prince who shows reluctance to leave and tells him they need to return. As they both step out of our room, Nicarra giggles in her sleep and mumbles the words, 'Menace that tickles'. Both princes stop abruptly and turn to look at her, but I swiftly walk to the door using my body to prevent them from coming back in. The dragon prince growls at me but I stand my ground and tell him.
'Growl all you want, but I wont let you hurt her.'
The Lycan prince comes between us telling him again they both need to leave. The dragon prince walks slowly backward and tells his brother to have guards stationed at our door, before turning and walking away. I pull the sweater around me closer to keep out the chill I feel. The lycan prince turns to me and says.
'You knew?'
'From the moment he rejected me I knew, which is why I cannot let him near her. Nicarra acts strong but deep down she is very fragile. I won't let him hurt her.'
'There is more to this than you think princess'
'Nyssa, my name is Nyssa'
'Nyssa, regardless of how you feel about my brother, I think he is right. I will have guards stationed here to protect you all.'
'Thank you but it is unnecessary, I deliberately rejected siren guards from my father because I didn't want to feel suffocated. We have no reason to feel threatened and if the need does arise to protect ourselves. My sister and I are quite capable on our own.'
'This isn't a request. I am informing you that you, your friend and my sister will be protected until we figure out what is going or we deem it safe for you all to move freely.' he responded and several tall and huge men started coming into the corridor taking different positions.
I close the door not wanting to disturb the sleeping girls inside but intent on speaking my mind.
'Listen alpha...'
'My father is currently alpha, I am still a prince but you can call me Lucas.'
'Lucas, I have been grabbed, choked and rejected while my sister was attacked and struck by lightening on the same night because of your brother. I am still trying to process all of those events and now you are here forcing yourself on me like I don't have a choice in the matter. Do not mistake my silence for lack of will.' I say merging both of my powers in unison for him to see just how serious I was.
'I would never disrespect you Nyssa. I failed to protect you from my brother tonight, it is a guilt I will always carry; which is why I will not risk anyone else getting hurt. We will deliberate more on this arrangement in the morning but like you said earlier, we all need to rest. Good night princess.'
Listening to him talk, I know there is no way to talk him out of this decision at this moment so I simply sigh and head back into the room and lock the door.
