Pain courses through my body. I feel achy all over. In the distance, I can hear voices, familiar ones, and I wince, wondering if it's worth opening my eyes. They are the very last people I want to deal with. They have no business being here, wherever it is that I am. I can feel myself wracking my brain trying to remember what happened, and the last thing I do is lose my balance on the stairs, the nausea and dizziness so bad that I thought I was ill.
