Elise POV
As soon as we reach the club, I really wish I was home with Emmy. I love spending time with Briar and Lola but right now, all my brain can focus on is my husband's callous treatment of my heart. Once we reach the private booth, I take a seat on a plush dark blue couch. "Elise, are you alright," Briar asks, sitting down next to me. I give her my best fake smile. "I'm great. It's just been a while since I've been out as a grown up. I'm just missing Emmy."
She smiles and grabs my hand. "I remember that feeling the first few times I went out without Kinsley. You deserve to have some fun, Elise." "You're right. I'll feel better after a couple of drinks." We're interrupted by a young woman wearing a dress that was definitely picked out by a man. I chuckle to myself. When did I become so cynical? As long as she feels comfortable, it's not for me to judge.
She smiles before she leans down to take my order. "What can I get you to drink, miss?" "Can I have a bourbon on the rocks?" "Of course," she says, looking confused. She turns leaving the booth and Briar and Lola burst out laughing. "I think you shocked her with your drink order," Briar says. "I'm sure. The first time I ordered bourbon on a date with your brother he wasn't sure if he was impressed or horrified. I hate fruity drinks, you know that."
A few minutes later, she returns placing two of the fruity drinks in front of the girls and my bourbon in front of me. "Thank you," I say and she smiles. "If you ladies need more drinks, I'll be over there. I'm your personal server for the evening." I take a long sip from my glass. The amber liquid burns my throat in the most delicious way. With my drink half way gone and both girls on their second, I'm ready to dance.
I can feel the alcohol as it works its way through my body. Some of the stress and anger from earlier fades as I start to move my body to the music. I'm not sure how long I dance when I have no choice but to break the seal as they say. I laugh even though I only said it in my head. Briar is eyeing me with a grin. "Are you drunk already? You only had one drink," she says. "No, I'm definitely feeling the first drink, but I'm not drunk. I need to pee."
She laughs "do you want me to come with you?" "No, I can manage on my own. You and Lola should keep dancing." I make my way out of our booth. Dante smiles when he sees me. "Where are you off to sis," he asks. "Bathroom, I'll be right back," I say over the loud music. I watch him nod at Dennis and start to walk behind me. Once we are in the hallway, I turn to face him. "Why the hell are you following me to the bathroom?"
"We are here to make sure no one gets handsy with our sisters, which includes you. I have strict orders to keep all people with d**ks away from the three of you or Bruce and Derrick will kick my a**," he says. I roll my eyes before turning back toward the bathroom. Once I'm inside, I'm glad to see I'm alone. I brace my hands on the sink for a few minutes before I head inside the stall. The thoughts I've been able to push away come rushing back. Why the hell was she in his car? What the f**k was he doing with her at the hotel?"
I take a few cleansing breaths before I relieve myself. I check myself in the mirror before I step back into the hallway. At first, I don't see Dante, but I can definitely hear him. That's not what makes my heart beat faster. It's the voice that I have loved for the last four years that has my chest aching. "Where the f**k is my wife, Dante? I'm hanging on by a thread. Now is not the time to play games with me," Morris says. "Sh*t man what's your problem? I was only kidding about you not being allowed around Elise," Dante says.
Clearly confused why his brother is being an a**hole. Before I can think better of it, I step out of the hallway and make my way around the two men. I walk back to the booth without giving my husband a single glance. I can hear him calling my name from behind me as I approach the couch where my fresh drink is sitting. I grab the glass and drink half in one go. Lola and Briar are busy dancing and don't notice the change in my mood.
I keep my eyes focused on the dance floor when I feel him take the seat next to me on the couch. We sit in silence, and I'm not even sure what to say to him at this point. F**k that, I'm not saying anything until he does. I throw back the rest of my drink before I wave at the server. She smiles and nods at me. "How many have you had," he asks. That's the first thing he says to me after being such an id**t. "Elise, my love, please look at me" he says.
I can feel the tears forming in the corner of my eyes, but I refuse to let them fall. Before I can entertain looking at him, the server sets my drink down in front of me. "Thank you" I say before reaching for it. Morris grabs the glass first. I turn watching him drink the full glass in one go. I go to stand needing to put some distance between us when he grabs my wrist. "Elise, please" he pleads. "Morris, I can't do this right now. I'm so hurt by your actions and I never thought you would be this man."
He releases my wrist and I make my way over to Lola and Briar. "I'm going to head home. Is it alright if Emmy stays at your house tonight, and I'll pick her up first thing tomorrow?" "You know we love having her. You don't have to rush. Derrick is making waffles for breakfast tomorrow. I'll drop her off." I smile and nod. She pulls me in for a hug. I hug Lola too before I make my way out of the booth. I'm sure Morris expected me to come back to him, but I don't have the strength to talk to him tonight.
Between the bulls*t and the booze, I'm exhausted. I make my way through the sea of bodies toward the front door. I'm almost there when strong arms wrap around my waist. Based on the shiver, I know it's Morris. He leads me outside away from the crowd. "Let me go. I'm tired, and I'm going home, alone." "Like f**k you are. You are going to get your a** in my car, and we are going to talk." "I'm taking an Uber. I won't sit in the car that you had your little girlfriend in."
He finally releases me and runs his hand through his dark hair. He takes two steps until he is in my space. "Elise, I am only going to say this one more time. That woman is nothing to me. Less than nothing. You are the only woman that is important and mine." "F**k you Morris. You have repeatedly proved to me lately that is not true." I pull the phone from my clutch ready to order the Uber when it's snatched from my hand.
I really wish I had that last glass of bourbon right now. "Give me my f**king phone you a**hole." Just as I say that my phone rings and Morris checks the screen. He immediately answers, and I'm just about to start a rant about the size of his balls when I hear the panic in his voice. "We will be there in fifteen minutes." He cuts the call and looks at me. "Emmy spiked a high fever and Derrick is concerned." Without another word we make our way to Morris's car. Once I'm inside, I try not to focus on the smell of her sickly sweet perfume and instead on getting to my daughter. She is what is important.
