A cup of coffee and jam tart in hand, I watched the lad talking to Hippo and then did a proper guided tour of the place, using fresh eyes. Someone started up, and the engine was nearby, and the whole place vibrated with the roar of the motor. I smiled as Danny put his hand over his ears before he rushed over to the car and watched as close as he could, Hippo standing behind him, taking in how the lad moved and the questions he asked. All this gave him an idea of how much he knows and whether it is the sort of person he wants around him as an apprentice.
