Silence. That’s what follows Rosa’s words and it’s not a shock to me. What is a shock however is the way both Ebony and Laurel react to the words. Now, I’d expected Ebony - sorry my mother - would have been worried but I wasn’t anticipating Laurel’s actions either. “I believe what I’ve done is force you into checkmate,” Rosa repeats her free hand finding mine and lacing her fingers through mine, trying to telegraph her support. It’s ok. Her words reassure me ever so slightly, enough to keep my head in the situation and not let worries about her distract me. She laughs. I think I can handle myself. Thank you very much, Hunter. She laughs again and then her thoughts look to become more contemplative, eyes looking between me and my closest brother.
