Chapter 6: Kenna

1525 Words

Kenna The entire flight home, I think about what Yhendorn has said. He makes being claimed sound so ... good. But it’s not in our nature to give up our freedom or our independence, for someone else. I need to eat, but I won’t dare risk getting captured by the many elvish troupes that now roam the forests trying to capture a dragon. When I get back to the Academy, I’ll find another dragon or two to go hunt with me. The moment I land, Naida rushes me. “How is he? How did he look? Is he hurt? Is that terrible elf abusing him?” she asks. “Naida, calm down,” I say, wrapping my arms around her. “Tell me! How bad is it?” she asks, sounding panicked. I look up and see Kaylani heading our way, her lips pressed tightly together. These last two years have taken a toll on her adopted daughter.
