Chapter 9: The AfterglowThe next morning, Charles never came to pick me up. After a whole night of heavy breathing and hysteric crying, I finally realized what I’d done. I pushed away a man who genuinely cared for me because I was scared that I might’ve actually cared for him too. Maybe even loved him. I was so afraid of being hurt, so afraid of that heartbreak, that I turned away my only chance at happiness.
I sprinted outside and frantically waved down a passing taxi. I gave him the address and told him to step on it. The cab soared down the highway and it wasn’t very long before he dropped me off at the front gate. I pressed the intercom call button.
