Chapter 9: The AfterglowThe next morning, Charles never came to pick me up. After a whole night of heavy breathing and hysteric crying, I finally realized what I’d done. I pushed away a man who genuinely cared for me because I was scared that I might’ve actually cared for him too. Maybe even loved him. I was so afraid of being hurt, so afraid of that heartbreak, that I turned away my only chance at happiness. I sprinted outside and frantically waved down a passing taxi.
