Weakness

2204 Words

Walking is slow going for me, but I'm on my feet again. Ward limps beside me, clinging to my arm. If possible, he is even more adamant about not having me out of his sight recently, and I worry there's something he's not telling me. Walking from tent to tent, we visit the other injured. One man lost his whole lower leg to a poisoned arrow. The others chose to amputate rather than lose the man. He is still in a state of fever and they fear he might die. “We didn't see any signs of the poison in either of your Majesties. Perhaps you were lucky and did not encounter the poison?” I can tell Ives has a million questions as he asks me this. The look in his eyes informs me he knows there wasn't a chance in Hell Ward and I had not been hit by a poisoned arrow or two and he awaits my explanation.
