Luci’s eyes suddenly shot open and her body convulsed upwards as she quickly recalled the last moments of consciousness she had experienced. With her hair now dry and her clothes now changed and present without a single drop of water, she realized it must have been some time since she had been collected by August and spared the near-death experience while in his arms. Her heart returned to its pounding anxiety when she thought of how he blindly offered his life in exchange for hers if it meant protecting her-and then came the fear of his whereabouts. Fearful that she would have seen him live, only to die offering protection to her, she pulled herself from the bed before being made aware of her surroundings.
