“What did you do?” Mrs. Cannoble roared at Jason, for whom she had no remorse.
In fact, there were no real feelings to feel. What Renee did have was barely there, a shield of broken emotions unsure of how to rebuild. That’s what she had now with her family in absolute control of her.
And, oh, if she slipped that little bit out of line…
Renee sneered but covered it with a pathetic yawn.
“She’s worse than she was before you were summoned!” Mrs. Cannoble ranted.
Jason stood silently beside her, taking the somewhat subdued verbal lashing. Renee was sure that this wasn’t even close to the caliber of arguments he’s dealt with but it feels good to be talked about like she’s not in the room.
