It’s hard to process much else than to pay attention to the ground around him. Sand falls helplessly into the cavern only to be swallowed up and sealed again. Never had he seen anything so terrifying. There was no way she’d make it in the sands. The image of her motorcycle smashed to bits came first, then her perpetual fall, the fear in her eyes as she screamed haunted him the most though. “Why couldn’t we have been a were-owl or something?” Kris muttered to his alpha. “Pay attention!” the beast in him argued, forcing them to leap to the left to chase another, safer, ledge. Again, the telltale creek sounded, another hush of sand slipped beyond him, calling his attention away from where he stood. “I can’t go back down there,” Kris worried. No light. No sound. … but our mate.
